These emulators are a software simulator for the Allen Bradley line of Logix 5000 controllers (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FlexLogix, SoftLogix5800 and DriveLogix), and the whole idea is to mimic the function of a PLC without the actual hardware so that you can test ad debug your program.
If you do not have a PLC (most of the time we all don’t) to test your logic, Rockwell offers a hardware emulator, which is called the RSLogix Emulator (for Allen-Bradley PLC that uses RSLogix5000 version 29 and below) or Studio 5000 Emulator.
